Lesson 4: Take Only What You Need
Contestants are only allowed to bring two suitcases on the show.
I don’t know about you, but it would be tough for me to fit multiple dresses (cocktail dresses and rose ceremony dresses), clothes for dates (including active dates), make up, shoes, clothes for cold weather, clothes for warm weather, a hair dryer, a curling iron, and whatever else I needed… all into two suitcases.
This forces them to think about what they really need for this journey and bring only the essentials.
During COVID-19, we can also learn a lot about what’s essential and what isn’t.
I am speaking literally here—clothes, kitchen gadgets, books, miscellaneous items—and metaphorically. What can we leave behind? What’s truly important to us?
And on a practical level, what can we donate once this is all over that will help simplify our lives and help others who might need whatever we don’t need or want anymore?
Action Item: Spend time going through each room and make a pile/bags of items to donate once it is safe to do so.
Secondly, spend some time journaling about the things/habits/people/feelings/behaviors you want to KEEP and the ones that maybe, you’d like to leave behind.
BONUS: Download the PDF below to guide your reflections.
